Although chilly, December in general and the Christmas holiday in particular is a favorite time in the city. There’s always the chance of snow, which makes Manhattan magical. And, on top of that, perhaps because Christmas has become so commercialized and NYC is a city of commerce, there’s a fantastic energy in the air. Shoppers abound. Stores compete for the better window display. And most cultural seasons are in full swing. Good luck getting dinner reservations!

The holiday season has officially begun in Paris and it should be an even ‘brighter’ Christmas than ever, the Eiffel Tower has a special light show for its 120th anniversary, the Champs Elysées is twinkling with one million crystal lights - both lit by environmentally friendly bulbs. After some careful thought and input from the museum educator we are working with to revamp our Context for Families program, we have decided to reinstate our “Vatican for Families” walk. However, we do advise parents to read this post before booking that walk because while an extremely significant monument in Rome, the Vatican is simply not a space we would deem “kid friendly.” Read more »
