The Summer is London is busy with events. Probably the most sought after are the BBC Proms (or The Henry Wood Promenade Concerts presented by the BBC) : a six week program full of circa 100 concerts.
The tradition of the Proms ( Promenades Concerts) dates back to 1895, as an initiative of impresario Robert Newman to attract larger crowds to concert offering cheaper tickets.
The term Promming refers to use of the standing areas inside the arena for which ticket prices are much cheaper than for the reserved seating.
Prices are traditionally the same for all concerts and tickets cannot be purchased in advance. The cost for a standing ticket is £5
The Proms this year feature Bollywood music for the first time. And if you are traveling with children there are plenty of family oriented programs.
Finally, the closing concert will be on Septmber 12, in Hyde Park. With a £25 ticket you will buy yourself five hours of music and entertainment, and a sensational firework finale!
